Banh Chung

Description
Banh Chung (Vietnamese) – Eaten during the Vietnamese Lunar New Year or Tet Nguyen Dan, banh chung is a square sticky rice cake with a filling of mung bean and pork fat, and wrapped in bamboo leaves. Legend says that an ancient emperor held a contest to see which of his sons would succeed his throne. Whomever made the tastiest dish was the winner. The poorest son made the seemingly simple banh chung, with its square shape and green outer layer symbolizing the earth, and the rest, as they say, is delicious history.
