Tteokguk

Description
Tteokguk (Korean) – The centerpiece of Korean Lunar New Year or Seollal celebrations is tteokguk, rice cake soup. The white color of the rice cakes, or tteok, symbolizes purity, cleanliness, and a fresh start for the new year while their round shape resembles yeop jeon, Korea’s old coin currency, representing prosperity. It's also said that one grows one year older on Seollal but only after consuming a bowl of tteokguk. When asking someone's age, one may say, “How many bowls of tteokguk have you eaten?”
